Rob Bourke 30s/40s Male Voice Over
Profile
Voiceover work, and why I want it
Ever since I can remember, I've been able to mimic pretty much anyone and anything I wanted. From primary school teachers to prominent actors to politicians, I can take them all off with aplomb. I have always enjoyed using my voice to amuse others.
Range
I recorded an EP in 2005 with a mate of mine, Leo McKenna. Our claim to fame is that Leo met Glen Hansard on tour in the U.S and Glen ended up playing one of our tunes! My role in the two-man show is as singer, and the music is quite loungey. Many of the songs require the voice to be able to operate at both ends of the scale, so this has been a great source of training in that respect.
Accents
At the moment I am rehearsing for a production of Someone Who'll Watch Over Me by Frank McGuinness, in aid of St. Vincent de Paul. I am playing Michael, the diminutive but assured Englishman who is left on his own at the end of the play. The accent is an important part of any actor’s arsenal and luckily I am equipped for it. Our director, David Horan, is a man who can get the best out of people without roaring at them, and the experience is very fulfilling.
I love working with people, as I believe this is the key to keeping life interesting. Efficiency and flexibility are central to my job, as well as being personable and managing to approach situations in a friendly but professional manner. I am also very enthusiastic, especially when it comes to new projects.
In short, I am a person who craves some manner of creative outlet at all times. My job caters to this to an extent, but not as much as I'd like. I see VoiceOver work as an opportunity to use my vocal skills and flexibility in a creative way.
