Piehole Test My Voice

Created Thu, 26-11-09

Here is a read for the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland. This is a good, solid straight read that will show the natural timbre of your voice. Try not to make the read too earnest, that is so 90s. Warm and positive is the way to go.

Heeelp!!!!!

What is this?

It's the Piehole phone audition service. It lets an advertising agency post up a brief, and send it out to selected actors on the Piehole site. The actor can then, from the comfort of their own home and in their pyjamas, do an audition over the phone.

Why?

We want the Piehole voiceovers to be getting the bigger jobs out there. If an ad agency goes through the trouble of setting up a phone audition, it usually signifies that its a decent gig. Plus, it's a better service to the ad agencies, which means they use Piehole even more, which means, more work for you guys.

How does this phone audition work?

It's very easy and only takes a few minutes. You dial in the number above and wait for the voice prompt. Select the right audition on your keypad when asked. Then you'll be prompted to say your name and number, followed immediately by your audition - N.B. you say your name and number followed IMMEDIATELY by your audition. Don't worry if you make a mistake, just finish the read, once done, stay silent. You will then get the chance to listen back to your audition, and decide to submit it, or re-record it.

What if I make a mistake half way?

Don't panic. Just finish the read, once done, stay silent. You will then get the chance to listen back to your audition, and decide to submit it, or re-record it.

What happens after my audition?

An mp3 of your audition gets sent to the advertising agency who posted the audition. They will be in contact with you directly if they would like to book you.

You're not going to screw us by making us dial a premium rate phone number are you?

Nope. It's a normal local landline number.

Normally when I'm in studio, I can take "pauses" during the read. What to do on the phone?

Just do your best, obviously, there is no "editing" on the phone. The ad agencies know that it is only phone quality. The audition really is just to give them a rough idea of whether your voice/accent will be suitable for the job. Afterward, the recording will be done properly in a studio.

What if I'm not happy with my read?

You will get the chance to listen back to it, and re-record until you're happy with the read.

What if I miss the deadline date?

Then you've missed the boat.

Why does the automated robot voice on the audition call me "baby" and "buttercup"?

Because we searched high and low to find a nice robot.

Do I get paid for doing a demo?

Nope. There is no payment for doing this audition - but it does get you a shot at working with some of the biggest agencies. If you do get called into studio - normal demo rates apply.

Terms and conditions apply. This audition is completely voluntary.
