Are you on facebook?

Yeah obviously. Even my mum’s on facebook.  Well anyway, we started a facebook group. Find us, we’re under the name Piehole.  It’s for ad industry folk and voiceovers alike.  The plan is to bring the two groups together. For Piehole VOs - if you have comps to any shows you’re doing, and would like to promote yourself and show off your acting talents, you can get the ad industry to go and watch you.  We’re going to use the facebook group for that type of thing.  So get your butt in there, it’s lonely without you.

Saw this ad…

and it made me laugh.  Publicis Frankfurt made it, it’s for doggie breath mints.  It was on this week’s Bestadsontv.com. (A good place for voiceovers to find content for their demos, by the way).

Bad dog breath?

What are the best VO’s in the world up to?

OK, I know I’m a week or two late with this post, but let’s call it “fashionably late”. The Cannes winners have been announced, and I’m particularly interested in the radio side of things. To anyone who hasn’t heard the winning ads, check them out here. Be sure to click on the different categories (gold, silver, bronze). As a copywriter, this year’s show fills me with hope. The stuff is good, but not un-doably good. There’s no reason me, or any other copywriter in Ireland can’t pick up a gong next year.

For the voiceovers, this is a great place to source material for your demos, and just to use as practice content in general. The winners only stay up on this website for a few weeks, so have a good goo around the site.

TG4 ad rocks out

Congrats to the QMP guys for getting a shortlist at Cannes. The ad was directed by Richard Chaney who is with Speers Film. You can view the ad here. I know the guys had a heck of a time creating this ad, as it was a very technical shoot, as you can imagine. So as ROCK would say “Fair focks to you”.

Print ad for laxatives

This funny ad called “Manhole” was created by CBGrey in Paris. Love the payoff line - “it works”.

Gremlins

For anybody who didn’t see the new Coke ad, created by Mother in London here it is: Gremlins

Really well produced, cool sound and all. Coke seem to be moving away from their feel-good, goose-bumpy stuff, which could, at times, be corny let’s face it. This is still feel-good and happiness, but without the gag-reflex. I like it.

Stuff from India

I noticed there were quite a few ads this week that made it onto bestadsontv.com that were from India. None of the print work particularly floated my boat, here is one of the better ones for breathmints.

The Riverdance Massage

The internet has changed advertising, we all know that. But the scale of it is getting bigger and bigger. It allows brands to be so much more creative and not to mention, resourceful. It’s not just the likes of Diesel and Mini doing interesting viral campaigns. Look at this wacked out chick, doing a home-made viral for a small holistic massage company based in Dublin. She developed a product called “The riverdance massage”, made a (very) low budget video of it, and it’s been viewed by thousands of people. That must have cost her feckall, and she got loads of publicity.

John West print ad

for the new Tuna & Beans product. Think it was made in Australia. I like.

Honda Schmonda

Forgive me, but I’m not blown away by the new Honda ad.  I don’t know why.  It’s good, but not great. It’s really well done - but for some reason I’m left feeling cold.  It’s wow. But I’m not wowed, if that makes sense.  It falls a bit flat at the end me’thinks.   However, I will say this: way better than any of the trash I’ve been making lately. Please dear god, let this boring recession end.  It’s ruining all our fun and creativity, never mind cocktails budget.
