Friday Voiceover Tip: Make Every Monday Marvellous

New Habits bring New Results

PicMonkey CollageMany people spend their lives longing for success and never quite achieving it, overlooking that new habits bring new results. As a voice over artist, you have to be creative and innovative 95% of the time. Use of the imagination can help with finding ways to grow your voice over service. A great way to start is by changing your feelings towards Mondays in general. Most people dread Mondays because hate their job. Even if you love your job, Monday may still be a tough day to grapple with, simply because it means you have to shift from relaxation mode to work mode.  So here are few tips to help you make Mondays marvellous.

Start your day off right.

Wake up and set aside an hour for personal development activities (meditation, self-introspection, observing nature, etc.) Do the things that make you feel blissful, optimistic and empowered so that you can set a positive tone for your day. I guarantee that once you start doing this, your days will be more enjoyable and fulfilling.

Visualize daily.

It has been said and proven time and time again that what you focus on is what you get. If you complain all of the time, you will run into more of the things you complain about. The same goes for good things like health, wealth and happiness. So spend some time in the morning imagining yourself achieving whatever it is that you currently desire. Focus is key in this exercise, so choose a quiet environment where you won’t be disturbed.

Learn to focus only on the present.

The past is unchangeable so it is futile to reflect on it unless you are making sure you do not repeat past mistakes. The future is but a result of your actions today. So learn from the past to do better in the present so that you can succeed in the future.

Pay attention to thoughts and feelings.

It’s impossible to catch all the thousands of thoughts that pass through your mind each day, so focus on the first ones that pop into your head. They usually predict the worst and incorporate a “can’t do” or “shouldn’t do” message. See them for what they are: unfounded and irrational. Typically, they’re the result of negative conditioning and have little or nothing to do with reality. Think carefully about these negative thoughts. Once you realize that they’re not based on anything real, they’ll disappear in time.

Get in the sun.

If you live in a constantly dreary place, my apologies. The sun feels amazing, your entire body will be coursing with warmth and life.

Keep a journal/diary.

It sounds like a very monotonous habit at first, but when you get into it, that little book will become a great way to organize your thoughts and track your growth over the years. Most of us already stay awake in bed at night pondering the events of the day anyways so why not document those thoughts in an organized fashion? That will allow you to look back and observe how your way of thinking has changed over time.

Empty Your Inbox in 30 Seconds.

Is your inbox filled with thousands and thousands of unread messages? Clear your inbox of old emails in less than 30 seconds. Create a folder and name it “Archive” followed by today’s date. For example, “Archive_20150828”. Go to your inbox, select all the email messages and move them into the folder you just created. That’s it! Your inbox is cleared, and your mind can enjoy the resulting calm. Now, you don’t have to waste the mental energy to decide if you should delete each message or not?

Ah! I would like to begin every Monday in the bar my wife and I stayed next door to in County Clare, Ireland, a couple of weeks ago. Not there to get Murphy’d-up but to immerse in the craic. Such music! Such playing!

On a typical Monday in England, I just get stuck in to the emails. The weekend spam (I hadn’t thought of your set-aside tip) gets my adrenalin boiling, then when I can see a good booking or a promising audition the rest of the world disappears.

You are right: Whatever the day holds, first do or envisage something blissful to set the tone.
